China Business Network and ATA sign partnership agreement to increase travel and tourism to Africa

NEW YORK, NY, October 17, 2008 – The China Business Network (CBN) , in affiliation with the China Travel and Tourism Club (CTTC), and the Africa Travel Association signed a memorandum of understanding devoted to increasing the visibility of travel opportunities to and within Africa and China.

“This is an exciting opportunity for CBN and ATA,” said ATA Executive Director Edward Bergman. “Both China and Africa are seeing a significant rise in incoming tourism numbers, as more and more Chinese and African tourists are choosing to explore each other’s diverse and vast travel products. The timing and potential for investment in the industry could not be any better.”

The travel and tourism industry has become an increasingly important economic driver and foreign revenue driver in China, as well as in a growing number of countries across Africa.

“Working with ATA confirms the commitment that we at CBN have on supporting African countries in regard to the continued development of travel and tourism to the continent,” said Dr. Adam Wu, Chief Operating Officer of the China Business Network. “Africa is a major partner for China and a very attractive destination for Chinese visitors.”

As part of the MOU, the partners agree to engage in a dialogue to explore ways to support each other’s missions and programs. ATA will also exhibit promotional materials on Destination Africa at the China International Travel Market (CITM), to be held from November 20-23, 2008 at Shanghai New International Expo. CITM is the largest travel exhibition in Asia.

“Promotional authorities and commercial companies in the travel industry across Africa can benefit from CBN’s targeted marketing services and promotional efforts geared towards Chinese travelers,” said Wu. “CBN is happy to work closely with ATA to help increase Chinese traffic to Africa for business, incentive and leisure travel and increase Chinese investment.”
