Mount San Lorenzo, the second highest of the Patagonian Andes, is one of the best destinations for outdoor lovers.
In the Glaciers Province, very close to Cochrane, you will find one of the highest massifs of the Austral Patagonian Mountain Range, a still unexplored wonder of nature.
At a distance, 60 kilometers southeast of the Cochrane district, we find Mount San Lorenzo, a massif recognized for being the second highest of the Patagonian Andes. It will be one of the many locations for those outdoor and mountain climbing lovers to go to next season.
With its 3,706 meters of altitude, the massif surprises with its diverse natural charms; all observable while trekking or horseback riding, on a 6 hour journey up to a base camp taking an old cattle trail, where resting and visiting its surroundings and the lagoon that precedes the massif are part of the itinerary.
For those who love mountain climbing, this mount is a great stage for practicing this sport. This spot is definitely a must for amateurs of this discipline.
Another important tourist attraction is the possibility of coming up close to the Cayuqueo Glacier and marvel with its beauty. This place has raised its popularity in recent years due to its easy access, because it is located only 47 kilometers south of Cochrane.
Other options for camping and horseback riding are on the foothills of Mount San Lorenzo. Here, the visitor can set up camp, trek through a wide selection of trails, take photography and taste local food and dishes, such as the cordero al palo (open pit whole lamb barbecue).
The Glaciers Province, located right in between the North and South Ice Fields, with its three districts: Cochrane, Tortel and Villa O’Higgins, is characterized for being a huge 40 thousand km2 bioregion. It is right there waiting for visitors to come and visit its privileged surroundings.
