The Guam Visitors Bureau has its sights locked on the Chinese tourism market. Chinese visitors are nothing new to Guam. But lately, there is a big push to promote our island to the Chinese. That's because when it comes to money, they are some of the biggest spenders, even more so than the Japanese.
The average Japanese tourist spends $666 per day on island. Compare that to the the average Chinese visitor, who pumps at least 900 bucks a day into the Guam economy.
"We want to learn about the nuances of what the Chinese expectations are. What they like to do, what they like to see, and what they like to eat. Because Chinese always like to eat their own type of food, so we want to make sure there are plenty of Chinese restaurants here for them."
GVB has already started to put a plan into action. They are working with the legislature on visa regulations to make it easier for the Chinese to visit the island. There are also numerous activities and events targeting the Chinese market planned for the upcoming months.
One of the the biggest, is the China outbound travel market symposium scheduled for October 14.
The symposium looks to generate more tourism from China, for not only Guam, but the other islands of Micronesia as well.
