Rose Hall, Jamaica (February 2009) - Half Moon, the luxury resort located in Rose Hall, Jamaica, has teamed up with internationally acclaimed STAR 3 Spinning instructor Barbara Hoots and Mad Dogg Athletics, developers of Spinning® to offer guests the popular cycling-inspired Spinning® classes. This will make the luxury resort the only Caribbean resort to offer this popular fitness programme.
Equipped with 10 custom-designed Spinner® bikes and state of the art sound system in specially-designed Spinning studio, guests of the 400-acre resort can choose from three unique tours that invite them on a virtual experience of Jamaica.
The programmes Climb to Blue Mountain, No Problem Tour and Adventures in Negril were developed by Spin veteran Barbara Hoots and feature specially created soundtrack to inspire and energize riders.
The Climb to Blue Mountain tour, the most challenging class, includes a combination of high-energy and inspirational music to transport riders to Jamaica’s 7402 foot Blue Mountain Peak.
No Problem Tour is set to tribal drums and reggae songs to pump up riders on their winding ride. This class features the most intervals to get riders in and out of their seats.
Adventures in Negril encourages guests to feel as though they are riding along Negril’s world famous beach, navigating through the countryside and friendly jungles. Riders use a combination of seated flats, jumps and standing climbs to navigate the diverse terrain.
The bikes are equipped with dual-sided pedals with cleat compatibility to accommodate both athletic shoes or cycling shoes. Additionally the bikes feature a 43 pound flywheel, no slip grip handlebars with water bottle holders, a push brake safety system and micro adjustments for seat and handlebar adjustments. Classes are $20 and guests can reserve participation in class from their guest rooms.
The new Spinning® studio is the latest addition to Half Moon’s expansive health and wellness facilities and initiatives, including Fern Tree spa, a 68,000 square foot indoor/outdoor sanctuary for the mind and body which opened in 2007. The resort also offers fitness focused getaways for their guests including yoga retreats and boot camps and September is ‘wellness’ month at the resort.
