Spanish King Juan Carlos I on Friday concluded his six-day state visit to China in the wake of his trade-focused tour in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Juan Carlos I attended an economic seminar in Chengdu, saying resource-rich western China will be new pursuit of the Spanish firms as Spain and China are deepening their trade ties.
There are 11 Spanish enterprises in Sichuan Province, with a total contract investment of 19 million U.S. dollars, according to the province's industry and commerce authorities.
"Spain used to carry out more trade cooperation with the metropolis in eastern China like Shanghai and Beijing, but resource-rich western China now shows increasing potentials of development," said the Spanish King.
"In a few years, the cooperation between Spain and western China will become a highlight of bilateral trade cooperation," said the King.
This is the third visit of Juan Carlos I to China, during which he met with top Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo and Wen Jiabao in Beijing.
The King also attended art exhibitions in Shanghai and Beijing as part of the on-going "Year of Spain in China" exchange program.
