One does not have to be born Chinese to enjoy playing Chinese traditional music. Susie is not yet 10 and was born in Scotland and she likes playing Er Hu so much that she became a big fan of Ms Song Fei regarded as “Queen of Er-Hu”. So the visit of China Conservatory Orchestra to Edinburg Festival is a God sent opportunity for the young Er Hu player to meet her idol in person.
Ms Song Fei took photos with her fans
Little Susie was thrilled to have had her dream fulfilled by offering a bunch of beautiful flower on stage and had photo taken with Ms SongFei during the VIP reception.
Coincidentally, another 11 years old Chinese girl was on holiday with her parents and was going to leave Edingburg for York in the morning of 19th August. When the Chinese girl spoted her idol - “Queen of Erhu" - Ms Song Fei on the flyer showing China Conservatory Orchestra is going to perform on the very day the family was meant to leave Edingburg, there was only one decision - staying for the performance. For a young Chinese fan of 11 years old who is inspired by the Ween of Erhu, to see the preformance of her idol 8000 miles away from China it got to be a miracle.
Of course, she and her parents surely got more than they expected by liseteing to the 76 year old Conductor Mr Guan Nai Chun ”telling" stories about each of the Chinese folk music pieces that several music stars including the King of Bamboo Flute" - Prof. Zhang Weiliang and Mr Zhang Zunlian - the famous Jinghu player.
