Urban parks are a great tourist attraction for those visiting big metropolis and cities. They give a real and vibrant perspective of how its inhabitants interact with their different surroundings.

 

In Santiago, the Metropolitan Park has the best views of the capital: a visual summary of the city´s true dimensions and shapes with the majestic Andes Mountain Range in the background.

 

This public space, located in the heart of the Chilean capital, covers 722 hectares, 75% of them made up of green areas. It is emplaced in the San Cristobal Hill, the city´s green lung and the fourth largest urban park worldwide.

 

During the weekend, thousands of Santiaguinos take over the trails for a jog, to ride their bikes or for a simple stroll along with their families. Overall, it has 10 lookout points to every corner of the city.  For visitors, this urban experience in perfect balance with nature is a must.

 

In spite of it being only 300 meters high, the hilltop will always be a challenge and its prize is the best panoramic view of Santiago and the Andes Mountain Range in the back, completely covered in snow during the winter season.

 

Within the park, there are several activities almost impossible to do in one afternoon: gardens, plazas, two pools open all summer, sport areas, picnic areas, an educational forest, the national zoo, and a 6 kilometer cycle lane, one of the best in the country.

 

One of the Metropolitan Park´s entrances connects with the Bellavista Neighborhood, a tourist area with an excellent gastronomy offer and several boutique hotels.  It was the year 1955 when the Chilean Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda arrived here and made the La Chascona one of his homes, now a museum you can visit year round.  It is located in the highest end of the Márquez de la Plata Street, with three different level of floors and a small stairway circuit.
