On the afternoon of July 5, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Canadian Governor-General Michaelle Jean at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Hu said China always looks at ties with Canada from a strategic and long-term perspective and is ready to make joint efforts with Canada in abiding by the principles and spirit of China-Canada Joint Statement and the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Hu urged both sides to firmly grasp the overall direction of bilateral ties, respect and accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns, step up bilateral friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation, enhance coordination on major international and regional issues to push forward the bilateral strategic partnership.

Calling her current China visit a "trip of friendship," Jean said she has so far visited Beijing, Shanghai and southwestern China's Sichuan Province, broadly engaging with Chinese people from all walks of life. she was greatly impressed by China's prosperity, the colorful Shanghai Expo, the brand-new look of the country's Sichuan quake area as well as the Chinese people's friendly sentiments towards Canada.
