Increase in the number of Chinese tourists in Brazil under analysis in Brasilia
The actions to be developed to increase the number of Chinese tourists who visit Brazil every year was the theme of a meeting in Brasília between the president of the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), Marcelo Lima Costa and the Chinese ambassador to Brazil, Li Jinzhang, according to official information.

“China is a priority market for Brazil and of the 130 million Chinese that travel annually around the world, just over 50,000 seek out Brazil, so there is an opportunity for growth that should and will be explored,” said Lima Costa. He added that this increase in the number of Chinese tourists, “has a positive impact on the Brazilian economy.”

The meeting between the president of Embratur and the Chinese ambassador discussed topics such as the adoption of the electronic visa for Chinese tourists wishing to visit Brazil, an increase in investments and air links to drive the flow of tourists between the two countries.

The Embratur statement said that the electronic visa has already been adopted for citizens of Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States, with a nearly 50% increase in visa applications in Brazil in the first two months of it coming into force.

The Foz do Iguaçu destination will be promoted in a joint action between Brazil and Argentina in May at ITB China, one of the main tourism fairs in Asia.

The ministers of Tourism of Brazil and Argentina, Vinicius Lummertz and Gustavo Santos formalised a number of activities, focusing on the Iguazu Falls, a shared tourist product between the two countries, as well as participation in a world tourism forum, due to be held in Macau in October 2019.

In addition to its participation in ITB China, Embratur will promote the Brazilian destination for tour operators in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and hold meetings with some of the main Chinese investors to attract foreign capital to projects in Brazil.
