The number of Chinese tourists travelling overseas during this year's National Day golden week holidays is expected to increase by 11.1% to four million compared to last year, reported The Paper (link in Chinese).
Average travel costs will rise by 16% during the peak period of the golden week, compared to a rise of just 4% last year, according to analysis by travel agency Goldpalm.
Though Hong Kong, South Korea and Bangkok remain the most popular destinations, travel agencies have also reported an increase in the number of long-haul trips, with Washington, Rome and Paris particularly popular.
Female tourists meanwhile are more likely to partake in travelling abroad than their male counterparts, with 63% and 37% respectively. The report also states that the average age of those travelling is between 30 and 40.
South China Morning Post reports that the tourism market has remained strong despite the yuan's depreciation, with the currency still performing well against the dollar and especially the yen and euro.
