The prominent Lonely Planet website has selected its top ten destinations in the world to go on honeymoon in 2014, and the wine-producing valley of Colchagua was one of the top ten.
According to Lonely Planet, the chosen locations allow newlyweds to "take home romantic and unforgettable memories." Other destinations that appear in this global list are: Cappadocia (Turkey), Copacabana (Brazil), Marrakech (Morocco) and Bali (Indonesia).
The Colchagua Valley is highlighted for being a place away from the mass tourism circuits (retaining its countryside identity) and for its wonderful scenery composed of rolling hills and vineyards with the Andes mountain range as its backdrop.
It also mentions the international quality of its wines, as Carménère, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, as well as the diversity of activities in which travelers can take part, such as hiking, biking tours, horseback riding, tours through colonial towns and visits to Colchagua's museum.
Andrea Wolleter, general manager of
Turismo Chile, noted that "this article adds to the vast amount of recognition that Chile has received in recent times, such as the nomination of Torres del Paine as the 8th Wonder of the World or Barrio Italia being chosen as one the most beautiful places in the world for shopping."
