Chinese tourists forecast to spend more than U.S., UK visitors in New Zealand next year
Chinese tourists are predicted shopping more in New Zealand,UK and US..
Chinese tourists would overtake those from the United States and the United Kingdom in spending in New Zealand by mid 2012, New Zealand's Ministry of Economic Development announced Thursday.

The ministry's updated New Zealand Tourism Forecasts showed Chinese tourists would spend 604 million NZ dollars (476.8 million U.S. dollars) in 2013, easily exceeding expenditure of U.S. and UK tourists, said a statement from the ministry.

The number of Chinese visitors will not exceed those from the UK and U.S. until 2014.

The forecasts said tourism spending from all countries was expected to rise from 5.8 billion NZ dollars this year to 6.6 billion NZ dollars in 2016, when a forecast three million tourists would arrive.
New Zealand has been marketing itself strongly as a tourism destination in China.

The national tourism agency, Tourism New Zealand, has signed up award winning Chinese film and television star Yao Chen as a brand ambassador for the country.

In June, the agency signed up to a major promotional blitz with 10 Chinese travel companies in a campaign to encourage Chinese travelers to step off the track beaten by organized tour operators for more individual and adventure-based itineraries.
