Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday said the China-Africa relations are based on a win-win formula, dismissing concerns by some European countries that the Asian economic giant's presence in Africa has hampered the continent's progress in democracy.
Museveni told reporters here that China and Africa need to trade with each other because they both need markets.
"The Chinese need markets, we also need markets, they need raw materials, we also need to cooperate with them in processing these materials, so it is a win-win formula between Africans and Chinese," he said.
During a meeting between Museveni and German President Horst Kohler in Germany in the middle of the month, the Ugandan leader was told by his host that Africans believe that China is better than the West because it doesn't interfere with African countries' internal affairs as the West always criticize Africa over issues regarding democracy, corruption and human rights.
Museveni said he does not know why Europe is concerned about China's presence in Africa while they deem China a key trading partner globally.
"I can not follow why anybody should be concerned about China in Africa, when he is not concerned about China in Europe or Europe in China, it does not make sense," he said.
China's increased economic presence in Africa has raised debate whether the Asian country is driven by self-interest. But both Chinese and African leaders believed that the cooperation is based on a win-win basis.
