2008CITM Interview with the Director of Cuba Tourism Promotion and Information Office (CTPIO) in China

CITM---China International Travel Mart (CITM), the largest travel exhibition in Asia has been successfully held at Shanghai New International Exhibition Center from 20th Nov to 23rd Nov 2008. CITM aimed at both travel trade and consumers, provided exhibitors the opportunity of multiple business talks and negotiations with international buyers, travel agents in China as well as promoting their destinations and travel products and services to large number of Chinese consumers too.

For the first time unprecedented number of foreign destinations and exhibitors took part in CITM 2008. The Cuba delegation was led by Ms. Elizabeth C. Vera Jaime, the Director of Cuba Tourism Promotion and Information Office (CTPIO) in China. Ms. Elizabeth C. Vera Jaime, gave an interview to the reporter of World Travel Online:

Cuba is the largest Caribbean island and one of the most beautiful places on earth to visit. The Caribbean island tempts many travelers with its warm azure waters and perfect beaches. The water ranges from pale aqua to deep sapphire, the spectrum changing hourly as the relentless Cuban sun sweeps across the island sky. Travelers have the option of either walk around all day, swim or dive at its magnificent beaches, spend their nights dining on fancy International cuisine restaurants or wandering past old colonial buildings that are full of history all over the island.

WTO: How many Chinese tourists travel to Cuba per year? How about the tourism development between Cuba and China?

CTPIO: The tourism between Cuba and China is developing very well. There were more than 9,000 Chinese tourists traveling to Cuba. Comparing with 2007, it has grown by 10%. As we see more and more Chinese are interested in Cuba, and some of them have been to Cuba before. China and Cuba have established very good relationship and we believe that more and more Chinese will come to Cuba to enjoy their holiday or set business.

WTO: Would you please recommend some great interests of places in Cuba to Chinese tourists?

CTPIO: I think Chinese tourists will be very interested in the culture and history of Cuba. The classical architectures combined with different style also attracted many Chinese people. Nature, of course, especially sunshine beach is the most popular destination. Generally speaking, all the tourist attractions in Cuba are very attractive.

WTO: Would you please recommend some proper itineraries for Chinese tourists? 

CTPIO: Now Chinese tourists normally stay in Cuba for 5 to 7 days. Most of them chose west lines, like Havana –Varadero – Havana, but I am kindly recommending some east cities to Chinese tourists in Cuba. There are many great attractions as well. 

WTO: How about the accommodations, transportations and specialties in Cuba?

CTPIO: We’ve got Cigar, Rum, Coffee, wood carvings, etc.. Regarding eating in Cuba, We knew that Chinese people like Cuba food very much, such as Bean rice, roast chicken and beef and so on. You can enjoy different kinds of delicious food in Cuba as well.

WTO: As we see, the communication between China and Cuba is becoming better and better. What’s your comment about our World Travel Online as the main media and a platform for international communication?

CTPIO: China and Cuba has established very good friendship. I am very happy to work in China. As we all know that China helped Cuba to get independence, so people in
