Alipay, China's third-party online payment service provider, has officially entered Norway, its northern European partner announced on Monday.
Chen Jiayu, the CEO of APay Nordic, stated during yesterday's press briefing that the introduction of Alipay's payment and marketing solutions will not only improve Chinese tourists' experiences, but strengthen links between Norwegian companies and Chinese customers, Xinhua reported.
The number of Chinese tourists travelling to Norway surged during the first three months of 2017, reaching close to 32,000 - almost double the number reported in the whole of 2016.
The Thief, a luxury waterfront art hotel in Oslo, was the first local firm to introduce Alipay as one of its payment methods. The move was designed to get the hotel closer to the increasingly significant Chinese market, its commercial director Daniel Setekleiv said.
Norway's Nordic neighbour Finland has also opened its doors to the popular Chinese online payment wallet, after Stockmann, the country's largest department store, announced it was adopting Alipay.
