A research and consulting firm recently carried out a survey to understand what were the most desired tourist destinations for Millennial age and why. It came as no surprise that Maldives was chosen as a favorite among others.
China is the number one market for the Maldives, with over 300,000 Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives in 2015 alone and a market share of 29.1 percent. This has shown just how popular the Maldives is with Chinese tourists and how much more the Maldives can.
The survey found out based on the responses of 900 Asian travelers between the ages of 18-34, that their most preferred destinations worldwide were Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. But for Chinese millennial tourists the results were swapped with the likes of Maldives, Paris, Sydney and Taipei.
The findings discussed at a Millennial 2020 Summit in Singapore also found out that issues of security and stability in the countries desired countries were very important for tourists as well. 54 percent of responders said that they would choose a destination based on how safe they would feel there. Apart from safety, 44% of the responders said that ‘cultural offerings’ were the most important factors for their attachment with the destinations. with 39% percent prioritizing cost. Overall, 77 percent of those surveyed reported they wanted to go to a place they had never traveled to before.
Chinese tourists are the biggest market for the Maldives, and while extensive promotional activities have been carried out over the recent years, survey such as this proving Maldives’ popularity among Chinese travelers, there are still many areas untouched in the Chinese market for the Maldives. Targeted marketing for Millennial age groups or among others in the population as well as alluring social media attractions, tempting potential tourists should be given more emphasis. As the most populous country in the world, most Chinese use local social media’s such as Weibo and Qyer.
Maldives as a holiday destination is deemed as one the safest places in the world, and while it has a rich cultural heritage, the country has been described as somewhat costly if tourists are not well planned and lacking the right guidance. The long fair sanded beaches and the marine beauty the country offers is like no other place in the world, and is just one of the many reasons that tourists are so tantalized with the country as it takes just a few internet searches and magazines to see just how amazing the Maldives really is.
