If approved by the aviation authority, New York would become Hainan Airlines’ fifth destination in America, following Chicago, Seattle, Boston and San Jose.
Hainan Airlines plans to launch scheduled flights to New York from both Chengdu and Chongqing, two major cities in Southwestern China, next year.
This was reported in a statement on the website of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The carrier has applied for permission to operate thrice weekly flights to New York’s JFK International Airport from both Chengdu and Chongqing as early as in March and June 2017 respectively. Flights will be operated using its Boeing 787 aircraft.

Hainan Airlines will become the fifth Chinese carrier flying to New York, following Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines, which will launch its first flights to New York from Fuzhou, the capital of southeastern China’s Fujian province in January 2017.
