Sino-Indian cooperation aims for development, prosperity
Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh paid a successful, three-day visit to China in January last year, and both sides signed during his trip "A Shared Vision for the 21st Century of China and India" to advance bilateral friendly cooperative relations in the 21st century and press ahead with the construction of a harmonious world for common prosperity.

Afterwards, Indian Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi visited the Chinese capital of Beijing and attended the Olympic inaugural ceremony in early August 2008. India Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee visited China in June and his trip was followed by the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to India in early September of the same year. So, a sound momentum of sustained, smooth and steady growth has been shown in the relations between the two Asian neighbors.

China and India are considered the two fastest-growing economies worldwide. China is widely known for its strength in its manufacturing industry and infrastructure development, whereas India has a relatively developed service sector and is quite experienced in software outsourcing and biological medicine production. Hence, they complement each other economically with a big potential and a spacious space for cooperation.

China and India have been increasingly influential on global affairs. They share the similar stances or opinions on many global and regional issues of common concern. They cooperate closely and defend their own interests as well as the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries on such issues as the environmental protection, climate change, food and energy security, the Doha round of global trade talks and the world financial crisis.

During a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Ural city of Yekaterinburg, Russia on the sidelines of the BRICs meeting on June 15, President Hu Jintao said China would unswervingly enhance Sino-Indian good-neighborly and friendly cooperation with India, proceeding from a strategic height and long-term perspective.

On his part, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said during the meeting that "India will give top priority to its relations with China and is committed to advance bilateral cooperation in various fields on the basis of existing sound momentum". He also acknowledged "China is not a competitor and that there is enough room in the world for the two countries to achieve development."

China and India currently aspire to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year. Looking ahead, people are confident that China and India, both nations with great ancient civilizations, which had contributed greatly to the world civilization and development, are sure to make new, fresh contributions to peace in Asia and the world at large while attaining their own development.
