On August 3, 2009, Chinese Government's Special Representative on African Affairs Liu Guijin, also Special Representative of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, met respectively with Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives Usman Bayero Nafada and Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Alhaji Jibril Maigari in Abuja, capital of Nigeria.
Liu said that Nigeria is a large African country, as well as one of the few African countries that have established strategic partnership with China. China attaches great importance to ties with Nigeria and is ready to enhance bilateral communication and coordination and push for sound, stable development of the ties. Nafada and Maigari made positive comments on bilateral ties, pointing out that both countries are big developing nations with large population and there is huge potential for their cooperation in economy, trade and other sectors. To further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation is in the common interest of both sides. Nafada emphasized that the Nigerian House of Representatives will push forward and support all motions beneficial to the development of bilateral ties.
Both sides also exchanged views on the preparations of the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and regional issues of common concern.
