Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo left Moscow on Tuesday evening for home after winding up his official goodwill visit to Russia, Greece, Moldova and Romania and a preliminary Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Moscow.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), started his four-nation tour on May 17 at the invitation of Romanian Senate President Nicolae Vacaroiu and President Bogdan Olteaanu of Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Moldovan Parliament Chairman Marian Lupu, Greek Parliament President Anna Psarouda-Benaki and Russian Federation Council Chairman Sergei Mironov and State Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov respectively.
At the end of his visit to Russia, China and Russia issued a press statement to say that during his visit, Wu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, held talks respectively with Mironov and Gryzlov, co-chaired with them the first meetings of the cooperation committees of China's NPC and the Federation Council, and of China's NPC and the State Duma respectively.
The two sides exchanged views and reached consensus on bilateral relations, exchanges of visits and international issues of common concern.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the achievements made by the parliaments of the two countries in recent years and expressed the desire to improve the mechanism of cooperation between the parliaments, expand exchanges at different levels and in different ways in order to push forward cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
