COTTM2011 Interview with Representative of Sicily Regional Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment

The China Outbound Travel & Tourism Market (COTTM) 2011 was held successfully at the China World Trade Center in Beijing between April 13th and 15th.  COTTM has been the only B2B event focusing 100% on outbound travel from China hence it attracted exhibitors from 55 countries ranging from national tourism authorities to accommodation providers, airlines, incoming tour operators, DMCs as well as tourist destinations.


Mr. Gandolfo Ganci, Representative of Sicily Regional Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment gave an interview to World Travel Online in the media room operated by the CBN and WTO during the COTTM. He said this was the first time that Sicily region promote its tourism in China, they will hold a workshop in October so the Chinese tour operators can easily meet with incoming services from Sicily. Also, Mr. Gandolfo Ganci introduced the location, travel situation and visa issues of Sicily region.

As the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily is probably the richest in history and art. Sicily's sunny, dry climate, scenery, cuisine, history, and architecture attract many tourists from mainland Italy and abroad. The tourist season peaks in the summer months, although people visit the island all year round. Mount Etna, the beaches, the archeological sites, and the two major cities of Catania and Palermo are the favourite tourist destinations, but the old town of Taormina and the neighbouring seaside resort of Giardini Naxos draw visitors from all over the world, as do the Aeolian Islands, Erice, Cefalù, Syracuse, and Agrigento. Many Mediterranean cruise ships stop in Sicily, and many wine tourists also visit the island.
