On 5 October, CNTA Vice Chairman Zhu Shanzhong and his party attended the 18th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly, which was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev attended and addressed the conference. The General Assembly unanimously elected Taleb Rifai as Secretary-General of UNWTO for the period 2010-2013, and the former Secretary-General Francesco Frangialli was given the title of Honorary Secretary-General. The General Assembly discussed some issues like further enlarging the group of member states, a Roadmap for Recovery for the tourism sector and sustainable development.
During the conference, Zhu Shanzhong met with the new Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, and the two party exchanged ideas on furthering cooperation. Meanwhile, Zhu Shanzhong also met with Jin Dongjun, chief of DPRK’s tourism department, Ng Yen Yen, Malaysian Minister of Tourism, XAKIMOV, Chairman of Uzbekistan National Tourism Committee, and leaders from Arab Tourism Organization.
On 4 October, Zhu Shanzhong’s party paid a visit to Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan. Zhu Shanzhong met with Ambassador Cheng Guoping. They exchanged ideas on the prospect of Sino- Kazakhstan tourism cooperation, and said that trough joint efforts, the full potential of Sino- Kazakhstan tourism cooperation and bilateral communication could be reached, and Sino- Kazakhstan tourism cooperation would enter a new stage.
