Western Australia day tours delight Chinese visitors
A new deal has been struck that will see Chinese visitors offered coach-based day tours in and around Perth with a Mandarin-speaking guide.

Coach operator ADAMS Perth has partnered with Aus Highway Travel Services to create Ni HAO WA tours.

The joint venture will look to travel agents in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong to sell their new products to prospective holidaymakers.

The day tours will begin in November and include the Pinnacles, Wave Rock, Margaret River and Pink Lake.

They will be accompanied by a professional Chinese-speaking guide.

Three-day tours will also be introduced in January.

Smaller Chinese-owned and operated companies offer Chinese-speaking tours, but this is the first WA-owned operation to provide the service.

ADAMS Perth has been involved in WA tourism for more than 37 years, while Aus Highway Travel Services has developed a strong understanding of the Chinese market over the past 10 years.

ADAMS Perth managing director Adam Barnard said it was only a matter of time before WA’s natural beauty, combined with the shared time zone and close proximity, would make the State the ideal destination of choice among Chinese tourists.

“With the imminent start of more flights from China, we believe now is the perfect time to introduce this brand to the WA tourism scene,” he said.

Earlier this month, the McGowan Government announced a $30 million partnership between Tourism WA and Perth Airport.

It is specifically looking at daily flights to and from China through China Southern and direct flights to Shanghai with China Eastern.

While the number of Chinese visitors to WA has grown about 10 per cent over the last three years to 57,200 — it is still only 4.4 per cent of the national share.

Boosting Chinese tourist numbers is important — China is currently WA’s sixth biggest source market of tourists (behind Britain, Malaysia, Singapore, US and New Zealand) but is now the biggest spending group of tourists at $285 million a year.
