Bahamas, China Sign Memorandum on Air Services

In what could be a major step for Bahamian tourism, the Bahamas and China have signed a memorandum of understanding for air service between the two countries.

The move comes months after initial talks led by Prime Minister Perry Christie on the idea.

The agreement was signed by Transport Minister Glenys Martin at Christie’s office in Nassau.

It provides the legal framework for air services between the two countries.

Li Jiaxiang, administrator in China’s Civil Aviation Department, signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese government.

Eventual air service between the two countries could be a boon to the as-yet-unfinished Baha Mar resort, which is being constructed by China.
