Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs

On August 31, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Odien Ajumogobia in Beijing.
Yang said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties about 40 years ago, both sides have always treated each other on an equal footing and in sincere cooperation and the friendly relations have been developing smoothly. China is ready to work with Nigeria to further enrich political mutual trust, push for smooth development of economic and trade cooperation of mutual benefit, promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges in an orderly manner and enhance coordination and cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, in a bid to lift bilateral ties to a higher level. Yang said the follow-up actions of the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) are being implemented and China is ready to work with Nigeria and other African countries to jointly push forward the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.
Ajumogobia said that the development of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries has maintained a good momentum with close high-level exchanges, positive results achieved in pragmatic cooperation in all areas and communication and cooperation in international and African affairs. Currently the Nigerian government is committed to reforms in all fields and accelerating the country's economic development. The Nigerian side hopes to further expand bilateral cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy and telecommunications and push the friendly cooperative relations to a new level.
Both sides also exchanged views on the African situation and other regional and international issues of common concern.
