On May 27, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met respectively with Indian President Pratibha Patil and European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.
In the meeting with Patil, Wen said China and India, both ancient civilizations and big developing nations, are linked by mountains and rivers and enjoy deep connections. Respecting each other for common progress not only conforms to the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, but also will bring to mankind new hopes. Wen proposed the two states treat bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term point of view, enhance high-level communication, build mutual trust and bolster cooperation, in a bid to benefit the two peoples and promote harmonious and sustainable development of the world. Wen asked Patil to convey his cordial greetings to Prime Minister Singh and his good wishes to the Indian people.
Patil conveyed Prime Minister Singh’s greetings to Premier Wen. She said India and China are important neighbors to each other and are both emerging powers that are developing rapidly. The two countries share broad common interests in the bilateral and multilateral fields. She pledged to boost high-level exchanges and political dialogue, expand economic and trade cooperation, encourage two-way investment and business cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural contact, and strengthen coordination on major international affairs with China in a bid to push bilateral ties towards a strategic cooperative partnership facing peace and prosperity.
Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan and other officials attended the meeting.
During his meeting with Buzek, Wen said that the world is undergoing profound and complex changes and China-EU relationship has entered an important period of development. Wen reaffirmed the Chinese government's support for the integration of Europe, expressing belief that European countries could overcome difficulties emerging during their economic recovery through the practice of unity and coordination. Wen pledged to enhance mutual trust and cooperation with the European side and push forward China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
Buzek thanked for China’s support of the European integration, saying that the European side has the capability to get out of the current crisis as soon as possible, which is of great significance to Europe and the whole world at large. It is a basis of bilateral cooperation to enhance EU-China dialogues, including those between the European Parliament and the National People’s Congress of China, and to build up mutual understanding between both peoples. The European Parliament is ready to make more useful efforts in this regard.
