Running parallel to WTM 2012, China Tourism Forum, organized by China Business Network (CBN) with its awarded travel portal World Travel Online and CBN Travel & MICE and received great support from CNTO London, was successfully held in London. It included two special sessions "China Tourism –Inbound and Outbound" to present China's tourism market booming.
World Travel Market (WTM), the leading global event for the travel industry, took place on 5th – 8th November 2012, attracting up to 50,000 travel professionals across the world. Ms. Fiona Jeffery, Chairman of World Travel Market indicated that the size of the Chinese market is clearly a big factor in its importance as an outbound market, but it is interesting that China is also emerging as an important place for people to visit. She also welcomed
China Tourism Forum was held during the WTM, which would help the participants learning more about "China Tourism" both inbound and outbound.

China Tourism Forum has two special sessions "China Tourism –Inbound and Outbound" which was an eagerly waited platform where senior tourism officials presented the latest development and shared their experience of inbound and outbound tourism of China to senior travel professionals worldwide. "China Tourism Forum - Inbound": China has become the 4th largest tourism market
China has become the 4th largest tourism market in term of international tourists. In 2011, China recorded 57.58 million of inbound overnight tourists, up by 3.44%; the record has been 20.38 million, up by 1.79% from January to September 2012. In 2011, China recorded US$48.5 billion in foreign exchange tourism revenue, up by 5.78% and RMB 2.25 trillion in total tourism revenue, up by 20.1%.

"China Tourism Forum – Outbound": China truly has become one of the largest tourist sources
In 2011, China recorded 70.25 million outbound visitors, up by 22.42%. From February to November in 2012, China recorded 61.47 million outbound visitors and rose to possibly 80 million by the end of 2012, up by 19.17%. Chinese visitors can be found almost every famous travel destination all over the world and it seems that the strong purchasing power of Chinese visitors has become the life-saving straw for the depressed European Market. As China truly has become one of the largest tourist sources, the “China Outbound Travel” session received significant attention and more than 100 travel professional attended.

In the outbound session, the speakers discussed the features of China outbound travel and visitors. The topics include:
1. How should foreign destinations and incoming service providers really understand and cater for Chinese visitors?
2. What are the real differences between Chinese travelers and visitors from other countries?
3. What role has national tourism authorities and association of tour operators been playing in educating and supporting member companies to cater for Chinese visitors?
China's outbound tourists became"Powerful Buyers"
Mr. Tom Jenkins, Executive Director of the European Tour Operators’ Association (ETOA) and a panelist at a session on China’s outbound tourism, mentioned that China is a really beguiling market; China's outbound tourists have become “Powerful Buyers” in recent years. Mrs. Yu Ningning, President of China International Travel Service (CITS), added that Chinese outbound tourists would like to buy some gifts during their overseas travels, which undoubtedly stimulates the tourism market development.
Senior Tourism and Incentive Travel enjoy huge potential for development
Mrs. Yu mentioned senior tourism and incentive travel have huge potential for development in the future. She said “Half of European and American outbound visitors are retired people, but in China, they only occupied 20% of the total number. Besides, incentive travel is also a very "big cake" for European and American industry. In 2011, CITS organized a very large incentive group to Korea with over 10,000 visitor and 400 guides. What’s more, every year we will send lots of groups to Europe and the largest group had 5000 visitors.” These numbers surprised all the guests in the session.
European tourism market should be adjusted according to Chinese tourists' characteristics
Professor Wolfgang Arlt, Director of the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute and India Tour Operators Chairman Subhash Goyal, revealed that by 2015, China is likely to become the No.1 international tourism source market in the world. European tourism market should be adjusted according to Chinese tourists' characteristics. They are not the traditional "holidaymakers" and they prefer to experience the maximum places within limited time.

Secretary General of China Tourism Association, Mr. Jiang Qikang introduced the recent development of China’s tourism, “In 2011, China recorded US$48.5 billion in foreign exchange tourism revenue, up by 5.78% and RMB 2.25 trillion in total tourism revenue, up by 20.1%. The delegation of China National Tourism Administration attended with the largest scale this year, including over 40 Tourism Boards, tour operators and corporate travel organizers. International Council for Tourism Partners (ICTP) President Professor Geoffrey Lipman reflected on his 3 decades of engagement with China travel and tourism and pointed to the systematic build-up of what he described as “a great positive force for change” for the whole world. The immense size and potential of demand for the China travel experience, predicting that within 5 years it will be the largest domestic, inbound, and outbound market in the world.
