On May 17, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia.

 

Xi Jinping welcomed Hun Sen's official visit to China and his attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Cambodia relations enjoy a sound development momentum. Attaching great importance to developing its relations with Cambodia, China is willing to work with the country to unswervingly promote bilateral friendly causes and deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation, so as to better benefit the two peoples and make greater contributions to regional peace and prosperity.

 

Xi Jinping stressed that both countries will embrace the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year. Both sides should take the commemoration of the 60th anniversary as an opportunity to promote bilateral relations for steady, forward-looking and better development. We should give play to the leading role of high-level contacts to bilateral relations, and enhance exchanges of experience on state governance and administration. Both countries need to deepen practical cooperation, well implement the promotion of cooperation plan for the "Belt and Road" construction, and focus on cooperation on major projects including production capacity and investment. Both sides should elevate the scale and level of economic and trade cooperation, well implement the construction of relevant cooperation projects, strengthen cooperation in such areas as law enforcement and security, anti-terrorist, fighting against cyber crime and international fugitive repatriation, and expand social and people-to-people and cultural exchanges in tourism, culture, education and youth. China supports Cambodia to play a greater role in international and regional affairs, and to the country's presidency of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.

 

Hun Sen expressed that Cambodia firmly adheres to the friendly policies determined by King-Father Norodom Sihanouk toward China, and thanks China's firm support and strong assistance for a long time. The Cambodian side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, consolidate traditional friendship, so as to promote bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for greater development. Both sides should always share mutual understanding and support on issues concerning respective development and major concerns, expand practical cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, development, poverty reduction, health, security and combating transnational crimes, as well as intensify communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. Cambodia agrees to jointly well hold the commemorative activities marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.
