It is estimated that about 270,000 Chinese tourists will visit the Czech Republic this year.
The figures for the total spending of Chinese tourists in the Czech Republic are growing fast, as they recorded a rise of 119 percent in the first half of this year and surpassed Russian tourists' expenses in June, the Global Blue company told the Czech News Agency today.
A further increase in Chinese tourists' spending is expected with the launch of the Beijing–Prague direct flights in the autumn.
In June, the share of Chinese tourists accounted for 26 percent of the total amount of spending made by foreign visitors, which was an increase from 4 percent in January.
"It is not only Chinese but also other Asian countries, such as Thailand and Taiwan, that are firming their position on the market. Thailand shows one of the highest average spending figures," Global Blue marketing manager Zuzana Roubíčková said.
Tourists from Thailand spent 31,320 Kč on average in the Czech Republic, followed by Chinese tourists with an average of 21,443 Kč and American tourists with an average of 15,639 Kč.
Chinese tourists most frequently buy clothing and fashion (45 pct) and jewels (37 pct).
The number of Chinese tourists in the Czech Republic increased around 20 percent to 211,000 last year.
Chinese air carrier Hainan Airlines is to launch Prague–Beijing flights Sept. 3, flying three times a week. A total of 60,000 passengers are expected to use the line annually.
According to an estimate of the Association of Czech Travel Agencies, about 270,000 Chinese tourists will visit the Czech Republic this year.
