The average expenditure of China's outbound independent tourists was 8,173 yuan ($1,315) per person in 2014, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday, citing a report from travel website qyer.com.
Asia remains the favorite destination for Chinese tourists, but Europe is also becoming increasingly popular, the report said.
The report said that Chinese tourists spent as much as 28 percent of their budgets on shopping, which is the second-largest expenditure after transportation spending.
The report also said that travelers between 21 and 30 years old account for 62.4 percent of Chinese independent tourists.
