Azerbaijani leader hails growing Chinese tourist influx
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday praised an increase in the number of Chinese tourists visiting his country, according to the state-run news agency AZERTAC.

"This is a sign of development of relations between the two countries," Aliyev said as he received credentials of incoming Chinese ambassador Guo Min.

Earlier this year, Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency and China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding, aiming to increase the number of Chinese group tourists visiting Azerbaijan to 200,000 in the next few years.

In 2016, Azerbaijan simplified the visa process for Chinese visitors in a bid to boost tourism flows from China.

Aliyev spoke highly of Sino-Azerbaijani relations, saying his meeting with the Chinese leadership in Beijing this April confirmed both countries' interests in expanding bilateral exchanges.

He particularly lauded economic cooperation, saying the recent arrival of a freight train from Xi'an in Azerbaijan highlighted the existence of good potential to capitalize on the achievements in the transport sector.

Ambassador Guo emphasized mutual support between the two nations.
