Ukraine's north-western Rivne region is taking efforts to attract more tourists from China, the Ukrainian government-run Ukrinform news agency said on Wednesday, citing a regional official.
Yaroslava Gavrilova, Deputy Head of Culture and Tourism Department at Rivne regional administration, said that travel brochures about the region's main sightseeing attractions were translated into Chinese.
To showcase its potential to more Chinese travel agencies, Rivne region plans to take part in the ITB China travel exhibition in Shanghai on May 15-17 and other exhibitions, Gavrilova said.
Currently, Rivne region is one of the most popular destinations among Chinese tourists in Ukraine, she said, adding that the majority of visitors travel to the Tunnel of Love -- a botanical phenomenon, where trees and bushes are creating a four-km-long tunnel in a dense forest.
Located some 350-km west of Kiev, Rivne region is known for its ancient castles and churches. It is home to more than 3,200 sites of historical, archaeological and cultural heritage.
In 2017, Ukraine welcomed 31,114 Chinese visitors, up 51.4 percent from a year ago. The full-year figure for Chinese tourists arrivals to Ukraine in 2018 has not been released.
