The Tourism Ministry is targeting to attract wealthy tourists from China by boosting the double destination countries promotion program in cooperation with Singapore.

Vinsensius Jemadu, Asia-Pacific promotion director at the Tourism Ministry, said that Chinese tourists visiting Singapore had shown interest in visiting Bintan.

"The responses from the Chinese high-end market are quite good towards Bintan," Vinsensius told Bisnis on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

According to Vinsensius, the government will also promote a number of tourist destinations in the program. Included in the destinations to be promoted are Lombok, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Semarang.

Vinsensius added that Tanjung Kelayang, Tanjung Lesung, Wakatobi and Komodo Island have huge potentials to be included in the list. Vinsensius suggested that the quality of Chinese Tourists' visits could be measured based on the amount of money spent during the visit.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency showed that the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in January 2017 reached 1.03 million, increasing by 26.58 percent when compared to the same month last year. Chinese tourists accounted for 20.7 percent of the total figure.
