The British pound has taken a hit since Great Britain decided to leave the European Union in June. But that's not totally a bad thing, at least for the UK's retail sector. A cheaper pound attracted many Chinese tourists to the UK during China's just-concluded National Day Holiday.
Shops in Great Britain have already started preparing for Christmas, the Western world's biggest shopping season. But many businesses have been enjoying increasing sales way before Christmas. That's because the number of Chinese tourists surged during early October.
Many analysts have given grim assessments concerning the impact of Brexit on the British economy. But at least the UK's shopping malls are happy. Major retailer Westfield said its two malls in London enjoyed a 53 percent jump in sales to Chinese tourists in August. October's numbers aren't yet in.
As the pound continues to slide, analysts say the UK will become more reliant on foreign shoppers.
