Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said his government plans to double the number of tourists to the country, mainly from China.
He assured Peru is rich in history, archaeology, and natural beauty, so his administration is aimed at doubling the number of visits, which currently totals 3.5 million.
“We have to bring tourists from all over the world to do so. We need to attract more Chinese holidaymakers, whose presence is important in Europe and the United States. I’ve seen Chinese citizens in Iceland, but a few of them come here,” he pointed out.
He said an eventual exemption of visa requirements will automatically apply to all Chinese citizens holding a valid Schengen visa or a visa issued by the United States, Canada, or Mexico, so that they can enter Peru visa free.
“We must improve infrastructure, and address language, hotel, and food issues […]. We have to discuss the routes with Chinese government officials, because it is not that easy. The distance from China to Peru is quite long, so the journey has to be part of a tour of Latin America.”
