New Chinese road signs: To reduce road accidents in northern Thailand
Chinese road accident boom follows Chinese tourism boom, so govt to install road signs to reduce road accidents. Chinese & Korean tourist guide shortage.
The Thai Tourism Department and the Transport Ministry will install direction signs in Chinese next year in a bid to ease the number of car accidents caused by tourists travelling from China into Thailand, especially around Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is one of the most popular destinations among Chinese travellers, with many coming by car via Route R3A through the Chiang Khong checkpoint in Chiang Rai.

Tourism in Chiang Mai is booming, but so are road accidents involving Chinese drivers, which is chalked up to their poor understanding of Thai traffic law and directions.

The agencies hope Chinese direction signs and billboards will reduce the number of accidents.
