Li Jinzao Meets with Vice Prime Minister of Georgia

On 9 March, CNTA Chairman Li Jinzao met with the Georgian delegation led by Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili. Both parties exchanged views on promoting tourism cooperation along the Silk Road and bilateral tourism exchange.

Chairman Li welcomed the guests, and said that China and Georgia had long lasting friendship and should strengthen communication and cooperation and increase tourism contacts based on mutual benefits. China and Georgia were both located along the Silk Road, boasted abundant tourism resources, were highly complementary to each other, and thus enjoyed broad prospects for tourism cooperation. CNTA would like to work together with Georgia to promote tourism cooperation along the Silk Road and the Chinese side would like to invite representatives of Georgian tourism authorities to attend the meeting for tourism ministers from countries along the Silk Road to be held in Beijing later this year to discuss the development of Silk Road tourism. What’s more, Li Jinzao also suggested promoting Chinese and Georgian enterprises to participate in exhibitions and host all sorts of tourism promotional activities in each other’s country, and the training of interpreters and tour guides by tourism colleges and training institutions jointly, to improve the visa on arrival system for tourists, provide them with more considerate and convenient services, and help scale up the mutual flow of visitors between the two countries.

Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Kvirikashvili spoke highly of the strategic vision brought by the Chinese government on the construction of the new Silk Road economic belt and believed that it would present precious opportunities for the two countries to strengthen tourism cooperation. He said that Georgia had been well known for its wine making, spa and red tourism products under the theme of Stalin and would surely be welcome by Chinese tourists. The Georgian side would further reinforce its tourism publicity, simplify the visa procedures, open more direct flights to China, give priority to practical tourism cooperation, and contribute to the deepening bilateral relation with China.

The meeting was also attended by the Georgian Ambassador to China Davit Aptsiauri and CNTA department heads concerned.
