With roughly 5,000 yearly visitors coming from China,
Zimbabwe is preparing to take new measures that will hopefully bump Chinese tourist numbers up to that of neighboring countries who garner 16-20X more tourists. According to CCTV Africa, new laws would allow for Chinese visitors to pick up visas in Zimbabwe, instead of going through the hassle along with setting up travel.
The visa changes are also a strategy to lure more investment into the country’s medical sector.
“To me— for as long as we have a look east policy — I think it would make sense to then remove the requirements for visas,” Dr. Abel Mubangbo said in the report. “Or, to maybe make the process quicker.”
