Wen Jiabao Holds Talks with Nikola Spiric, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina

On May 7, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Nikola Spiric, chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the Great Hall of the People.

Wen extended welcome to Spiric, who is on a visit to China and will also visit Shanghai to attend the National Pavilion Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Wen said China respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and respects its people's choice of their development path. Wen hoped the western Balkan region would achieve lasting peace and stability. Hailing the traditional friendship between the two sides, Wen said China is ready to work together with Bosnia and Herzegovina to push forward bilateral tries based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

Wen said trade and economic cooperation between the two countries has good prospects. The Chinese government encourages competent and reputable companies to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to participate in its economic construction. He welcomed Bosnian enterprises to further develop the Chinese market and expand exports to China. Both sides should make joint efforts to promote cultural, educational and tourism exchanges to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, he said.

Spiric applauded the friendly relations between both sides and thanked China for its valuable support and help. Bosnia and Herzegovina attaches importance to China's development, and it is a common aspiration of the government and people of Bosnia and Herzegovina to strengthen its friendly and cooperative relations with China, he said. Bosnia and Herzegovina is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China and will continue to firmly support China in major issues concerning China's core interests. Spiric said his country, which is striving for national economic and social development, hopes to work with China to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, education, cultural exchanges, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes Chinese citizens to travel to the country, he added.

After their talks, Wen and Spiric witnessed the signing of the economic cooperation document between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minster of Commerce Chen Deming and other officials attended the talks.
