On November 2, Shao Qiwei, Chairman of China National Tourism Administration, met with Linda Lingle, U.S. Governor of Hawaii, and both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in tourism.
Shao Qiwei first extended a warm welcome to Linda Lingle for her visiting on behalf of the Chinese National Tourism Bureau. He said the two countries signed the Travel Cooperation Letter of Intent at the just concluded 20th Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade. The implementation scope for Chinese citizens to form delegations to travel in US expanded into 12 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), making the total number reach 21. Meanwhile, the establishment of Sino-US Tourism Directors 31 +50 Dialogue Mechanisms has also been listed as an important result of this Joint Commission session. It is believed that the exchange and cooperation in tourism between the two countries in the future will be further deepened.
Shao Qiwei also said that the China National Tourism Administration and the State of Hawaii have maintained a long-term friendly cooperation and hoping both sides would have further cooperation in terms of tourism investment and tourism personnel training, and jointly promote the development of tourism.
Linda Lingle said that tourism is conducive to promoting the Sino-US economic and trade exchanges, Hawaii will make further efforts to promote tourism exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and also welcomes more Chinese tourists to visit Hawaii.
