On June 3, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held talks in the Foreign Ministry with Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Mohammed Abdel Rehim Al Zorkani, who is here for a working visit.
Zhai said that China attaches importance to developing ties with Egypt and is ready to maintain high-level exchanges, continuously build up political trust and conduct pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. He urged both sides to strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, cooperate closely within the frameworks of the China-Africa and China-Arab cooperation forums and push forward China-Egypt strategic cooperative relations and China-Africa, China-Arab friendly cooperation.
Zorkani said that Egypt is satisfied with the long-term smooth development of bilateral ties. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Egypt-China strategic cooperative relations. Egypt is ready to conduct cooperation with China in a wider range of areas including politics and trade, to push forward China's friendly relations with Egypt, as well as with Africa and Arab countries.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
