Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Attend the Eleventh China-EU Leaders’ Meeting in Czech

As agreed by China and the European Union, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council will attend the Eleventh China-EU Leaders' Meeting to be held in Prague, capital of Czech, on May 20.

China values its relations with the European Union, supports its integration process and welcomes the EU play a more active role in international affairs. The China and the EU have made remarkable progress in their relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1975. In 2003, China and the EU established the comprehensive strategic partnership. More than 50 consultation and dialogue mechanisms at various levels have been established, covering a wide range of fields, including politics, economy and trade, science and technology, energy and environment. Under the current circumstances, it is significant that China and the EU strengthen cooperation to jointly respond to international financial crisis, climate change and other global challenges. This serves the fundamental interests of both parties, and contributes to the enduring peace and sustainable development of the world.

The China-EU Leaders' Meeting is the highest-level mechanism of political consultation between the two. During the upcoming meeting, participating leaders will have in-depth exchange of views on China-EU relations as well as major international and regional issues of common interest. A series of major cooperation documents will be signed. China believes that this meeting will further enhance the mutual trust, deepen the cooperation of mutual benefit with the EU and give a boost to the China-EU relations.
