China-Costa Rica Economic and Trade Forum took place in Beijing and was organised jointly by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, CCPIT, the Foreign Trade Department of the Republic of Costa Rica and the Foreign Trade Corporation of the Republic of Costa Rica.
The forum was part of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Costa Rica Mr. Oscar Arias to China and attended by Mr. Marco Vinicio Ruiz, minister of the Foreign Trade Department as well as Mr. Wan Jifei, the chairman of CCPIT, Ms. Ma Xiuhong, the China's Vice Minister of Commerce. China Business Network and World Travel Online as the special media dedicated to the outbound tourism from China were invited to attend and report on the forum.

Following the forum, President Oscar Ariasof accompanied by Mr. Wan Jifei, the chairman of CCPIT to visit the beautiful stands of Costa Rica’ enterprises and communicated with the Chinese trade visitors and invited guests.

After the visit, the chairman of the Costa Rica Council for the Promotion of Foreign Trade introduced the export opportunities and the investment environment of Costa Rica. Investors and business executives from Costa Rica and China had the opprtunity to discuss mutual intersts and potential co-operation with each other.

China is the second largest trade partner of Costa Rica, while the latter was the eighth largest to China in Latin America.
Bilateral trade between the two countries was recorded at 1.04 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months in 2007, up 69.5 percent over the same period last year, with Chinese exports to Costa Ricaat 164 million U.S. dollars and imports from Costa Rica at 877 million U.S. dollars.
China's imports from Costa Rica range from electronic products and integrated circuits to micro-electronic components, diodes and other mechanical and electrical products.
Costa Rica mainly imports from China shipping containers, computers, telecommunications products and also electronic products and integrated circuits.
Costa Rica is an approved destination for Chinese nationals to visit hence many corporate travel organisers are very interested in finding out more informaiton about Costa Rica as a destination for investment, for doing business and for incentive travel. The outbound tour operators are very keen on sending chinese holiday makers for leisure travel to Costa Rica too.
