GOLDEN AWARD CONFERED ON TTB

Tanzania Tourist Board – TTB which is responsible with the promotion of tourism within Tanzania and overseas has been presented with the Golden Europe Award for Quality and Commercial Prestige at a colorful ceremony held in Berlin Germany on January 29, 2007.

TTB was among 40 worldwide companies from 35 countries that were presented with the Golden Awards and certificates recognizing their efforts towards promotion of their products and services through modern marketing techniques, consistent information systems and brand image. TTB Award was based on the achievements it is getting on its systematic destination marketing based on the tourism policy of low volume high yield commonly referred to as quality tourism. The branding of Tanzania product using the then slogan Tanzania, Authentic Africa, and recently Tanzania, the Land of Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar has positioned the country among the top preferred tourist destination in Africa.

Presenting the Golden Award to TTB’ Managing Director – Mr Peter J. Mwenguo and Amant C. Macha, Director of Marketing, Dr. Charbel S. Torbet President of Otherways Management and Consulting Association hoped the Award will inspire Tanzania to increase its marketing campaign overseas in order to attract many tourists to come and marvel over the country’s unique tourist attractions some of them world famous like the Serengeti Plains recently named the 7th New Wonder of the World; SelousGame Reserve covering an area of more that 50,000 sq.km; Ruaha National Park home of largest herd of elephants, Mount Kilimanjaro; Africa’s highest mountain and cultural tourism programmes now operational in 23 villages around the country.

Other African countries that had representatives receiving the Awards included Gambia, South Africa, Algeria and Zimbabwe. In recent years, TTB has increased its marketing campaigns in the key markets of North America, Europe and launched marketing programmer in the emerging markets of South Africa, Japan, Korea, China, India, Eastern Europe and Middle East.

The Berlin’s award presentation to the Tanzania Tourist Board is a continuation of its good record as it had scooped a number of international awards in as far as tourism promotion worldwide is concerned. For instance TTB’s film Tanzania Authentic Africa emerged the winner at the Grand Prix International Film Festival held in Vienna Austria in November 2004. As a result Tanzania became the first African country ever to win this world’s premier tourist film award ‘The World Grand Prix Award. TTB film beat 77 other films to emerge top winner of the prestigious gold award.

In September 2004, the same film at the Grand Prix MEFEST 2004 held in Zlatbor, Serbia, was announced the first winner and warded The Golden Pine Prix.
