Egyptian Mummy Relives in Beijing

The gate of the Egypt Theme Park: The Return of the Mummy

A mystical Egyptian mummy was "revived" on Tuesday at Beijing's Chaoyang Park, which is the setting for a thrilling adventure maze in the new "Egyptian Theme Park."

The "Egyptian Theme Park" event, which is to last from May 26 to October 10, will run under the title of the Hollywood blockbuster film "The Mummy Returns," as some of the thrilling games are adapted from the film's frightening catacomb scenes.

The theme park includes four features -- live Egyptian dancing, a labyrinth to get lost in, games, and special foods. The labyrinth is a representation of the mummy world as it was in ancient Egypt, with some special stunts added in.

The activity is co-organized by the Egyptian Embassy in China, and during this year's 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, Egyptian Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Noman Galal said:

"It's a beautiful idea because I know the meaning that Egypt holds for many Chinese, as much China means to many Egyptians…"

The theme park has previously toured to more than 10 countries in Europe and North America, and this is its second time in China following its great success in Shanghai last year.
